Water and toilet paper

lifejacket.jpgFirst, the water part:
Yesterday some good friends invited us to go to the lake with them and take their boat out and we had a blast...despite the weather.  The wind was literally blowing 20+ mph and it sprinkled on and off all afternoon which actually made it a little cool.  But, we took a picnic lunch (well, really Jenny took the picnic and we ate), the kids played in the water and on the very cool playground at Lynn Creek Park, we did get to take a spin in the boat when the rachellake.jpgwind died down, and we just relaxed.  Well, pretty much everyone relaxed except for Rachel...I'm thinking she's not an outdoorsy girl yet.  Sigh.  We'll keep working with her.  I actually sat in the car with her while everyone else went to the park, but she did finally go to sleep and that's all she needed to be happy.  It's weird because ethansophia.jpgeven though I would have rather not been sitting in the car with an upset baby, I sort of wanted to hold on to that moment.  It was one of those moments that you know you'll never remember this time next year, but at the same time you never want to forget.  I guess there was something sweet and special about sitting there all alone with my daughter listening to the waves and the wind, and knowing that in the blink of an eye she would be running around at the park with the "big kids." Anyway, we had a great time and we completely wore the kids out.  In the very short (we're talking minutes) drive from the picnic area to the parking lot to get our car, Rachel, Ethan and Sophia all fell asleep from pure exhaustion.  You can't see details in the picture, but Rachel's mouth was wide open, Ethan was drooling, and Sophia had a half-eaten cookie in her mouth.

housewrapped.jpgNow the toilet paper part:
Have you ever had one of those moments where you thought, "Did that really just happen?"  Well, we had one this morning.  Clay left the house early to go pick up donuts for his class, and when he came back in to get us, he told me that our house had been wrapped (or rolled for you northern folks).  Of course I didn't believe him...I mean, Clay is 30 and I'm almost there so surely we're not "cool enough" to have our house wrapped.  But, sure enough, our trees were swaying with toilet paper streamers this morning and then it hit me...Paul.  Paul is one of the high schoolers at church, and he and Clay have struck up a friendship.  It's funny because despite 12 years' difference in age, they really are friends.  He comes over a couple of times a week to play guitar, play video games, talk about computer stuff, etc.  He was over until about 1 a.m. Friday night with a friend of his, and I suppose they got a little too bored last night.  The funny thing is, Paul's dad (a deacon at our church) did not think it was very funny and made him come over and clean it all up.  I told Clay that it made me feel cool again - that's just sad.

  1. Back in Georgetown, we "wrapped" and you knew you were cool if your house got wrapped. Go ahead and have your moment of being cool...you gotta take what you can get at our age! Ha!
